Jó 34Jó 36
MSG
1Elihu lit into Job again:
ESV
1And Elihu answered and said:
MSG
2"Does this kind of thing make any sense?First you say, 'I'm perfectly innocent before God.'
ESV
2“Do you think this to be just? Do you say, ‘It is my right before God,’
MSG
3And then you say, 'It doesn't make a bit of differencewhether I've sinned or not.'
ESV
3that you ask, ‘What advantage have I? How am I better off than if I had sinned?’
MSG
4"Well, I'm going to show youthat you don't know what you're talking about, neither you nor your friends.
ESV
4I will answer you and your friends with you.
MSG
5Look up at the sky. Take a long hard look.See those clouds towering above you?
ESV
5Look at the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds, which are higher than you.
MSG
6If you sin, what difference could that make to God?No matter how much you sin, will it matter to him?
ESV
6If you have sinned, what do you accomplish against him? And if your transgressions are multiplied, what do you do to him?
MSG
7Even if you're good, what would God get out of that?Do you think he's dependent on your accomplishments?
ESV
7If you are righteous, what do you give to him? Or what does he receive from your hand?
MSG
8The only ones who care whether you're good or badare your family and friends and neighbors.God's not dependent on your behavior.
ESV
8Your wickedness concerns a man like yourself, and your righteousness a son of man.
MSG
9"When times get bad, people cry out for help. They cry for relief from being kicked around,
ESV
9“Because of the multitude of oppressions people cry out; they call for help because of the arm of the mighty.
MSG
10But never give God a thought when things go well, when God puts spontaneous songs in their hearts,
ESV
10But none says, ‘Where is God my Maker, who gives songs in the night,
MSG
11When God sets out the entire creation as a science classroom, using birds and beasts to teach wisdom.
ESV
11who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth and makes us wiser than the birds of the heavens?’
MSG
12People are arrogantly indifferent to God—until, of course, they're in trouble, and then God is indifferent to them.
ESV
12There they cry out, but he does not answer, because of the pride of evil men.
MSG
13There's nothing behind such prayers except panic;the Almighty pays them no mind.
ESV
13Surely God does not hear an empty cry, nor does the Almighty regard it.
MSG
14So why would he notice youjust because you say you're tired of waiting to be heard,
ESV
14How much less when you say that you do not see him, that the case is before him, and you are waiting for him!
MSG
15Or waiting for him to get good and angryand do something about the world's problems?
ESV
15And now, because his anger does not punish, and he does not take much note of transgression,
MSG
16"Job, you talk sheer nonsense—nonstop nonsense!"
ESV
16Job opens his mouth in empty talk; he multiplies words without knowledge.”
