1And then the People of Israel were back at it again, doing what was evil in God's sight. God put them under the domination of the Philistines for forty years.

1Os filhos de Israel tornaram a fazer o mal à vista de Jeová, que os entregou nas mãos dos filisteus por quarenta anos.

2At that time there was a man named Manoah from Zorah from the tribe of Dan. His wife was barren and childless.

2Havia um homem de Zorá, da família dos danitas cujo nome era Manoá; sua mulher era estéril, e não lhe dera filhos.

3The angel of God appeared to her and told her, "I know that you are barren and childless, but you're going to become pregnant and bear a son.

3O Anjo de Jeová apareceu à mulher, e disse-lhe: Eis que és estéril e não tens tido filhos; mas conceberás e darás à luz um filho.

4But take much care: Drink no wine or beer; eat nothing ritually unclean.

4Agora, toma cuidado, e não bebas vinho nem bebida que possa embriagar, e não comas coisa alguma imunda;

5You are, in fact, pregnant right now, carrying a son. No razor will touch his head—the boy will be God's Nazirite from the moment of his birth. He will launch the deliverance from Philistine oppression."

5pois conceberás e darás à luz um filho por cuja cabeça não passará navalha: porque o menino será nazireu para com Deus; e ele começará a livrar a Israel da mão dos filisteus.

6The woman went to her husband and said, "A man of God came to me. He looked like the angel of God—terror laced with glory! I didn't ask him where he was from and he didn't tell me his name,

6Entrou a mulher e disse a seu marido: Veio a mim um homem de Deus, cujo rosto era como o do anjo de Deus, em extremo terrível. Não lhe perguntei donde era, nem ele me disse o seu nome;

7but he told me, 'You're pregnant. You're going to give birth to a son. Don't drink any wine or beer and eat nothing ritually unclean. The boy will be God's Nazirite from the moment of birth to the day of his death.' "

7porém disse-me: Eis que conceberás e darás à luz um filho. Agora, não bebas vinho nem bebida que possa embriagar, nem comas coisa alguma imunda, porque o menino será nazireu para com Deus desde o nascimento até o dia da sua morte.

8Manoah prayed to God: "Master, let the man of God you sent come to us again and teach us how to raise this boy who is to be born."

8Suplicou Manoá a Jeová e disse: Peço-te, Senhor, que o homem de Deus, que enviaste, venha ter conosco outra vez e nos ensine o que devemos fazer ao menino que há de nascer.

9God listened to Manoah. God's angel came again to the woman. She was sitting in the field; her husband Manoah wasn't there with her.

9Deus ouviu a voz de Manoá; e o Anjo de Deus veio ter com a mulher outra vez, estando ela sentada no campo, porém não estava com ela seu marido Manoá.

10She jumped to her feet and ran and told her husband: "He's back! The man who came to me that day!"

10Apressou-se a mulher e, correndo, deu notícia disso ao marido e disse-lhe: Eis que me apareceu o homem que veio ter comigo outro dia.

11Manoah got up and, following his wife, came to the man. He said to him, "Are you the man who spoke to my wife?"He said, "I am."

11Levantou-se Manoá, seguiu a sua mulher e, tendo chegado ao homem, perguntou-lhe: És tu o que falaste a esta mulher? Ele respondeu: Eu sou.

12Manoah said, "So. When what you say comes true, what do you have to tell us about this boy and his work?"

12Então, disse Manoá: Quando, pois, se cumprirem as tuas palavras, como se há de criar o menino e que fará ele?

13The angel of God said to Manoah,

13Respondeu o Anjo de Jeová a Manoá: Guarde-se a mulher de tudo quanto eu lhe disse.

14"Keep in mind everything I told the woman. Eat nothing that comes from the vine: Drink no wine or beer; eat no ritually unclean foods. She's to observe everything I commanded her."

14De nenhum produto da vinha poderá ela comer, não beba vinho nem bebida que possa embriagar e não coma coisa alguma imunda. Guarde tudo quanto lhe ordenei.

15Manoah said to the angel of God, "Please, stay with us a little longer; we'll prepare a meal for you—a young goat."

15Manoá disse ao Anjo de Jeová: Permite-nos deter-te, para que preparemos um cabrito.

16God's angel said to Manoah, "Even if I stay, I won't eat your food. But if you want to prepare a Whole-Burnt-Offering for God, go ahead—offer it!" Manoah had no idea that he was talking to the angel of God.

16Respondeu a Manoá o Anjo de Jeová: Ainda que me detenhas, não comerei o teu pão; e, se preparares um holocausto, oferecê-lo-ás a Jeová. Pois Manoá não sabia que era o Anjo de Jeová.

17Then Manoah asked the angel of God, "What's your name? When your words come true, we'd like to honor you."

17Manoá perguntou ao Anjo de Jeová: Qual é o teu nome, para que, verificada que seja a tua palavra, te honremos?

18The angel of God said, "What's this? You ask for my name? You wouldn't understand—it's sheer wonder."

18Respondeu-lhe o Anjo de Jeová: Por que perguntas pelo meu nome, visto que é admirável?

19So Manoah took the kid and the Grain-Offering and sacrificed them on a rock altar to God who works wonders.

19Tomou Manoá o cabrito com a oferta de cereais e o ofereceu sobre a pedra a Jeová, que obra maravilhas. Manoá e sua mulher estavam observando.

20As the flames leapt up from the altar to heaven, God's angel also ascended in the altar flames. When Manoah and his wife saw this, they fell facedown to the ground.

20Ao subir a chama de sobre o altar para o céu, subiu com ela o Anjo de Jeová; o que vendo Manoá e sua mulher, caíram com o rosto em terra.

21Manoah and his wife never saw the angel of God again.Only then did Manoah realize that this was God's angel.

21Porém, o Anjo de Jeová não tornou a aparecer a Manoá ou a sua mulher. Então, soube Manoá que era o Anjo de Jeová.

22He said to his wife, "We're as good as dead! We've looked on God!"

22Manoá disse a sua mulher: Certamente morreremos, porque vimos a Deus.

23But his wife said, "If God were planning to kill us, he wouldn't have accepted our Whole-Burnt-Offering and Grain-Offering, or revealed all these things to us—given us this birth announcement."

23Mas sua mulher lhe respondeu: Se Jeová nos quisera matar, não teria ele recebido das nossas mãos um holocausto e uma oferta de cereais, nem nos teria mostrado todas estas coisas, nem nos teria dito neste tempo tais coisas como estas.

24The woman gave birth to a son. They named him Samson. The boy grew and God blessed him.

24A mulher deu à luz um filho, a quem pôs o nome de Sansão. O menino cresceu, e Jeová abençoou-o.

25The Spirit of God began working in him while he was staying at a Danite camp between Zorah and Eshtaol.
