1"Don't make idols for yourselves; don't set up an image or a sacred pillar for yourselves, and don't place a carved stone in your land that you can bow down to in worship. I am God, your God.

1No haréis para vosotros ídolos, ni escultura, ni os levantaréis estatua, ni pondréis en vuestra tierra imagen de piedra para inclinaros a ella; porque yo soy Jehová vuestro Dios.

2"Keep my Sabbaths; treat my Sanctuary with reverence. I am God.

2Guardad mis sábados, y tened en reverencia mi santuario: Yo Jehová.

3"If you live by my decrees and obediently keep my commandments,

3Si anduviereis en mis decretos, y guardareis mis mandamientos, y los pusiereis por obra;

4I will send the rains in their seasons, the ground will yield its crops and the trees of the field their fruit.

4Yo daré vuestra lluvia en su tiempo, y la tierra dará su producto, y el árbol del campo dará su fruto;

5You will thresh until the grape harvest and the grape harvest will continue until planting time; you'll have more than enough to eat and will live safe and secure in your land.

5Vuestra trilla alcanzará a la vendimia, y la vendimia alcanzará a la sementera, y comeréis vuestro pan hasta saciaros y habitaréis seguros en vuestra tierra.

6"I'll make the country a place of peace—you'll be able to go to sleep at night without fear; I'll get rid of the wild beasts; I'll eliminate war.

6Y yo daré paz en la tierra, y dormiréis, y no habrá quien os espante; y quitaré de vuestra tierra las malas bestias, y la espada no pasará por vuestro país.

7You'll chase out your enemies and defeat them:

7Y perseguiréis a vuestros enemigos, y caerán a espada delante de vosotros:

8Five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand and do away with them.

8Y cinco de vosotros perseguirán a cien, y cien de vosotros perseguirán a diez mil, y vuestros enemigos caerán a espada delante de vosotros.

9I'll give you my full attention: I'll make sure you prosper, make sure you grow in numbers, and keep my covenant with you in good working order.

9Porque yo me volveré a vosotros, y os haré crecer, y os multiplicaré, y afirmaré mi pacto con vosotros:

10You'll still be eating from last year's harvest when you have to clean out the barns to make room for the new crops.

10Y comeréis lo añejo de mucho tiempo, y sacaréis fuera lo añejo a causa de lo nuevo:

11"I'll set up my residence in your neighborhood; I won't avoid or shun you;

11Y pondré mi morada en medio de vosotros, y mi alma no os abominará:

12I'll stroll through your streets. I'll be your God; you'll be my people.

12Y andaré entre vosotros, y yo seré vuestro Dios, y vosotros seréis mi pueblo.

13I am God, your personal God who rescued you from Egypt so that you would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians. I ripped off the harness of your slavery so that you can move about freely.

13Yo Jehová vuestro Dios, que os saqué de la tierra de Egipto, para que no fueseis sus siervos; y rompí las coyundas de vuestro yugo, y os he hecho andar el rostro alto.

14"But if you refuse to obey me and won't observe my commandments,

14Pero si no me oyereis, ni hiciereis todos estos mis mandamientos,

15despising my decrees and holding my laws in contempt by your disobedience, making a shambles of my covenant,

15y si abominareis mis decretos, y vuestra alma menospreciare mis derechos, no ejecutando todos mis mandamientos, e invalidando mi pacto;

16I'll step in and pour on the trouble: debilitating disease, high fevers, blindness, your life leaking out bit by bit. You'll plant seed but your enemies will eat the crops.

16Yo también haré con vosotros esto: enviaré sobre vosotros terror, extenuación y calentura, que consuman los ojos y atormenten el alma: y sembraréis en balde vuestra simiente, porque vuestros enemigos la comerán:

17I'll turn my back on you and stand by while your enemies defeat you. People who hate you will govern you. You'll run scared even when there's no one chasing you.

17Y pondré mi ira sobre vosotros, y seréis heridos delante de vuestros enemigos; y los que os aborrecen se enseñorearán de vosotros, y huiréis sin que haya quien os persiga.

18"And if none of this works in getting your attention, I'll discipline you seven times over for your sins.

18Y si aun con estas cosas no me oyereis, yo tornaré a castigaros siete veces más por vuestros pecados.

19I'll break your strong pride: I'll make the skies above you like a sheet of tin and the ground under you like cast iron.

19Y quebrantaré la soberbia de vuestra fortaleza, y tornaré vuestro cielo como hierro, y vuestra tierra como bronce.

20No matter how hard you work, nothing will come of it: No crops out of the ground, no fruit off the trees.

20Y vuestra fuerza se consumirá en vano; que vuestra tierra no dará su esquilmo, y los árboles de la tierra no darán su fruto.

21"If you defy me and refuse to listen, your punishment will be seven times more than your sins:

21Y si anduviereis conmigo en oposición, y no me quisiereis oír, yo aumentaré las plagas sobre vosotros siete veces más, de acuerdo a vuestros pecados.

22I'll set wild animals on you; they'll rob you of your children, kill your cattle, and decimate your numbers until you'll think you are living in a ghost town.

22Enviaré también contra vosotros bestias fieras que os arrebaten los hijos, y destruyan vuestros animales, y os reduzcan en número, y vuestros caminos sean desolados.

23"And if even this doesn't work and you refuse my discipline and continue your defiance,

23Y si con estas cosas no fuereis corregidos, sino que anduviereis conmigo en oposición,

24then it will be my turn to defy you. I, yes I, will punish you for your sins seven times over:

24yo también procederé contra vosotros, en oposición y os heriré aún siete veces por vuestros pecados:

25I'll let war loose on you, avenging your breaking of the covenant; when you huddle in your cities for protection, I'll send a deadly epidemic on you and you'll be helpless before your enemies;

25Y traeré sobre vosotros espada vengadora, en vindicación del pacto; y os recogeréis a vuestras ciudades; mas yo enviaré pestilencia entre vosotros, y seréis entregados en mano del enemigo.

26when I cut off your bread supply, ten women will bake bread in one oven and ration it out. You'll eat, but barely—no one will get enough.

26Cuando yo os quebrantare el sustento del pan, diez mujeres cocerán vuestro pan en un horno, y os devolverán vuestro pan por peso; y comeréis, y no os saciaréis.

27"And if this—even this!—doesn't work and you still won't listen, still defy me,

27Y si con esto no me oyereis, mas procediereis conmigo en oposición,

28I'll have had enough and in hot anger will defy you, punishing you for your sins seven times over:

28yo procederé contra vosotros, y lo haré con ira, y os castigaré aún siete veces por vuestros pecados.

29famine will be so severe that you'll end up cooking and eating your sons in stews and your daughters in barbecues;

29Y comeréis las carnes de vuestros hijos, y comeréis las carnes de vuestras hijas:

30I'll smash your sex-and-religion shrines and all the paraphernalia that goes with them, and then stack your corpses and the idol-corpses in the same piles—I'll abhor you;

30Y destruiré vuestros altos, y talaré vuestras imágenes, y pondré vuestros cuerpos muertos sobre los cuerpos muertos de vuestros ídolos, y mi alma os abominará:

31I'll turn your cities into rubble; I'll clean out your sanctuaries; I'll hold my nose at the "pleasing aroma" of your sacrifices.

31Y tornaré vuestras ciudades en ruinas, y asolaré vuestros santuarios, y no oleré la fragancia de vuestro suave perfume.

32I'll turn your land into a lifeless moonscape—your enemies who come in to take over will be shocked at what they see.

32Yo asolaré también la tierra, y se pasmarán de ella vuestros enemigos que en ella moran:

33I'll scatter you all over the world and keep after you with the point of my sword in your backs. There'll be nothing left in your land, nothing going on in your cities.

33Y a vosotros os esparciré entre las naciones, y desenvainaré espada en pos de vosotros; y vuestra tierra estará asolada, y yermas vuestras ciudades.

34With you gone and dispersed in the countries of your enemies, the land, empty of you, will finally get a break and enjoy its Sabbath years.

34Entonces la tierra descansará sus sábados todos los días que estuviere asolada y que vosotros estéis en la tierra de vuestros enemigos; la tierra descansará entonces y gozará sus sábados.

35All the time it's left there empty, the land will get rest, the Sabbaths it never got when you lived there.

36"As for those among you still alive, I'll give them over to fearful timidity—even the rustle of a leaf will throw them into a panic. They'll run here and there, back and forth, as if running for their lives even though no one is after them,

36Y a los que quedaren de vosotros infundiré en sus corazones tal cobardía, en la tierra de sus enemigos, que el sonido de una hoja que se mueve los perseguirá, y huirán como de la espada, y caerán sin que nadie los persiga.

37tripping and falling over one another in total confusion. You won't stand a chance against an enemy.

37Y tropezarán los unos en los otros, como si huyeran delante de la espada, aunque nadie los persiga; y no podréis resistir delante de vuestros enemigos.

38You'll perish among the nations; the land of your enemies will eat you up.

38Y pereceréis entre las naciones, y la tierra de vuestros enemigos os consumirá.

39Any who are left will slowly rot away in the enemy lands. Rot. And all because of their sins, their sins compounded by their ancestors' sins.

39Y los que quedaren de vosotros decaerán en las tierras de vuestros enemigos por su iniquidad; y por la iniquidad de sus padres decaerán con ellos.

40"On the other hand, if they confess their sins and the sins of their ancestors, their treacherous betrayal, the defiance

40Y confesarán su iniquidad, y la iniquidad de sus padres, por su prevaricación con que prevaricaron contra mí; y también porque anduvieron conmigo en oposición,

41that set off my defiance that sent them off into enemy lands; if by some chance they soften their hard hearts and make amends for their sin,

41yo también habré andado en contra de ellos, y los habré metido en la tierra de sus enemigos; y entonces se humillará su corazón incircunciso, y reconocerán su pecado;

42I'll remember my covenant with Jacob, I'll remember my covenant with Isaac, and, yes, I'll remember my covenant with Abraham. And I'll remember the land.

42Entonces yo me acordaré de mi pacto con Jacob, y asimismo de mi pacto con Isaac, y también de mi pacto con Abraham me acordaré; y haré memoria de la tierra.

43"The land will be empty of them and enjoy its Sabbaths while they're gone. They'll pay for their sins because they refused my laws and treated my decrees with contempt.

43Y la tierra será abandonada por ellos, y disfrutará sus sábados, estando desolada a causa de ellos; entonces se someterán al castigo de sus iniquidades; por cuanto menospreciaron mis decretos, y el alma de ellos tuvo fastidio de mis estatutos.

44But in spite of their behavior, while they are among their enemies I won't reject or abhor or destroy them completely. I won't break my covenant with them: I am God, their God.

45For their sake I will remember the covenant with their ancestors whom I, with all the nations watching, brought out of Egypt in order to be their God. I am God."

45Antes me acordaré de ellos por el pacto antiguo, cuando los saqué de la tierra de Egipto a los ojos de las naciones, para ser su Dios: Yo Jehová.

46These are the decrees, laws, and instructions that God established between himself and the People of Israel through Moses at Mount Sinai.

46Éstos son los decretos, derechos y leyes que estableció Jehová entre sí y los hijos de Israel en el monte de Sinaí por mano de Moisés.
