1"God's kingdom is like ten young virgins who took oil lamps and went out to greet the bridegroom.

1Entonces el reino de los cielos será semejante a diez vírgenes que tomando sus lámparas, salieron a recibir al esposo.

2Five were silly and five were smart.

2Cinco de ellas eran prudentes y cinco insensatas.

3The silly virgins took lamps, but no extra oil.

3Las insensatas, tomando sus lámparas, no tomaron consigo aceite;

4The smart virgins took jars of oil to feed their lamps.

4mas las prudentes tomaron aceite en sus vasijas, juntamente con sus lámparas.

5The bridegroom didn't show up when they expected him, and they all fell asleep.

5Y tardándose el esposo, cabecearon todas y se durmieron.

6"In the middle of the night someone yelled out, 'He's here! The bridegroom's here! Go out and greet him!'

8The silly virgins said to the smart ones, 'Our lamps are going out; lend us some of your oil.'

8Y las insensatas dijeron a las prudentes: Dadnos de vuestro aceite; porque nuestras lámparas se apagan.

9"They answered, 'There might not be enough to go around; go buy your own.'

9Mas las prudentes respondieron diciendo: Para que no nos falte a nosotras y a vosotras, id más bien a los que venden, y comprad para vosotras mismas.

10"They did, but while they were out buying oil, the bridegroom arrived. When everyone who was there to greet him had gone into the wedding feast, the door was locked.

10Pero mientras ellas iban a comprar, vino el esposo; y las que estaban preparadas entraron con él a las bodas; y se cerró la puerta.

11"Much later, the other virgins, the silly ones, showed up and knocked on the door, saying, 'Master, we're here. Let us in.'

11Después vinieron también las otras vírgenes, diciendo: ¡Señor, señor, ábrenos!

12"He answered, 'Do I know you? I don't think I know you.'

12Mas él, respondiendo, dijo: De cierto os digo, que no os conozco.

13"So stay alert. You have no idea when he might arrive.

13Velad, pues, porque no sabéis el día ni la hora en que el Hijo del Hombre ha de venir.

14"It's also like a man going off on an extended trip. He called his servants together and delegated responsibilities.

14Porque el reino de los cielos es como un hombre que yéndose lejos, llamó a sus siervos y les entregó sus bienes.

15To one he gave five thousand dollars, to another two thousand, to a third one thousand, depending on their abilities. Then he left.

16Right off, the first servant went to work and doubled his master's investment.

18But the man with the single thousand dug a hole and carefully buried his master's money.

19"After a long absence, the master of those three servants came back and settled up with them.

19Después de mucho tiempo vino el señor de aquellos siervos, y arregló cuentas con ellos.

20The one given five thousand dollars showed him how he had doubled his investment.

20Y llegando el que había recibido cinco talentos, trajo otros cinco talentos, diciendo: Señor, cinco talentos me entregaste; aquí tienes, he ganado otros cinco talentos sobre ellos.

21His master commended him: 'Good work! You did your job well. From now on be my partner.'

21Y su señor le dijo: Bien, buen siervo y fiel; sobre poco has sido fiel, sobre mucho te pondré; entra en el gozo de tu señor.

22"The servant with the two thousand showed how he also had doubled his master's investment.

22Llegando también el que había recibido dos talentos, dijo: Señor, dos talentos me entregaste; aquí tienes, he ganado otros dos talentos sobre ellos.

23His master commended him: 'Good work! You did your job well. From now on be my partner.'

23Su señor le dijo: Bien, buen siervo y fiel; sobre poco has sido fiel, sobre mucho te pondré; entra en el gozo de tu señor.

24"The servant given one thousand said, 'Master, I know you have high standards and hate careless ways, that you demand the best and make no allowances for error.

24Pero llegando también el que había recibido un talento, dijo: Señor, te conocía que eres hombre duro, que siegas donde no sembraste y recoges donde no esparciste;

25I was afraid I might disappoint you, so I found a good hiding place and secured your money. Here it is, safe and sound down to the last cent.'

25por lo cual tuve miedo, y fui y escondí tu talento en la tierra; aquí tienes lo que es tuyo.

26"The master was furious. 'That's a terrible way to live! It's criminal to live cautiously like that! If you knew I was after the best, why did you do less than the least?

26Respondiendo su señor, le dijo: Siervo malo y negligente, sabías que siego donde no sembré, y que recojo donde no esparcí.

27The least you could have done would have been to invest the sum with the bankers, where at least I would have gotten a little interest.

27Por tanto, debías haber dado mi dinero a los banqueros, y al venir yo, hubiera recibido lo que es mío con los intereses.

28" 'Take the thousand and give it to the one who risked the most. And get rid of this "play-it-safe" who won't go out on a limb.

28Quitadle, pues, el talento, y dadlo al que tiene diez talentos.

29Porque al que tiene, le será dado, y tendrá más; y al que no tiene, aun lo que tiene le será quitado.

30Throw him out into utter darkness.'

30Y al siervo inútil echadle en las tinieblas de afuera; allí será el lloro y el crujir de dientes.

31"When he finally arrives, blazing in beauty and all his angels with him, the Son of Man will take his place on his glorious throne.

31Cuando el Hijo del Hombre venga en su gloria, y todos los santos ángeles con él, entonces se sentará en su trono de gloria,

32Then all the nations will be arranged before him and he will sort the people out, much as a shepherd sorts out sheep and goats,

32y serán reunidas delante de él todas las naciones; y apartarálos unos de los otros, como aparta el pastor las ovejas de los cabritos.

33putting sheep to his right and goats to his left.

33Y pondrá las ovejas a su derecha, y los cabritos a su izquierda.

34"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Enter, you who are blessed by my Father! Take what's coming to you in this kingdom. It's been ready for you since the world's foundation.

34Entonces el Rey dirá a los de su derecha: Venid, benditos de mi Padre, heredad el reino preparado para vosotros desde la fundación del mundo.

35And here's why: I was hungry and you fed me, I was thirsty and you gave me a drink, I was homeless and you gave me a room,

35Porque tuve hambre, y me disteis de comer; tuve sed, y me disteis de beber; fui forastero, y me recogisteis;

36I was shivering and you gave me clothes, I was sick and you stopped to visit, I was in prison and you came to me.'

36estuve desnudo, y me cubristeis; enfermo, y me visitasteis; en la cárcel, y vinisteis a mí.

37"Then those 'sheep' are going to say, 'Master, what are you talking about? When did we ever see you hungry and feed you, thirsty and give you a drink?

37Entonces los justos le responderán diciendo: Señor, ¿cuándo te vimos hambriento, y te sustentamos, o sediento, y te dimos de beber?

38And when did we ever see you sick or in prison and come to you?'

38¿Y cuándo te vimos forastero, y te recogimos, o desnudo, y te cubrimos?

39¿O cuándo te vimos enfermo, o en la cárcel, y vinimos a ti?

40Then the King will say, 'I'm telling the solemn truth: Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me—you did it to me.'

40Y respondiendo el Rey, les dirá: De cierto os digo que en cuanto lo hicisteis a uno de estos mis hermanos más pequeños, a mí lo hicisteis.

41"Then he will turn to the 'goats,' the ones on his left, and say, 'Get out, worthless goats! You're good for nothing but the fires of hell.

41Entonces dirá también a los de la izquierda: Apartaos de mí, malditos, al fuego eterno preparado para el diablo y sus ángeles.

42And why? Because— I was hungry and you gave me no meal, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,

42Porque tuve hambre, y no me disteis de comer; tuve sed, y no me disteis de beber;

43I was homeless and you gave me no bed, I was shivering and you gave me no clothes, Sick and in prison, and you never visited.'

43fui forastero, y no me recogisteis; estuve desnudo, y no me cubristeis; enfermo, y en la cárcel, y no me visitasteis.

44"Then those 'goats' are going to say, 'Master, what are you talking about? When did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or homeless or shivering or sick or in prison and didn't help?'

44Entonces también ellos le responderán diciendo: Señor, ¿cuándo te vimos hambriento, sediento, forastero, desnudo, enfermo, o en la cárcel, y no te servimos?

45"He will answer them, 'I'm telling the solemn truth: Whenever you failed to do one of these things to someone who was being overlooked or ignored, that was me—you failed to do it to me.'

45Entonces les responderá diciendo: De cierto os digo que en cuanto no lo hicisteis a uno de estos más pequeños, tampoco a mí lo hicisteis.

46"Then those 'goats' will be herded to their eternal doom, but the 'sheep' to their eternal reward."

46E irán éstos al castigo eterno, y los justos a la vida eterna.
