Jó 31Jó 33
NABRE
1Then the three men ceased to answer Job, because in his own eyes he was in the right.
MSG
1Job's three friends now fell silent. They were talked out, stymied because Job wouldn't budge an inch—wouldn't admit to an ounce of guilt.
NABRE
2But the anger of Elihu, son of Barachel the Buzite, of the clan of Ram, was kindled. He was angry with Job for considering himself rather than God to be in the right.
MSG
2Then Elihu lost his temper. (Elihu was the son of Barakel the Buzite from the clan of Ram.) He blazed out in anger against Job for pitting his righteousness against God's.
NABRE
3He was angry also with the three friends because they had not found a good answer and had not condemned Job.
MSG
3He was also angry with the three friends because they had neither come up with an answer nor proved Job wrong.
NABRE
4But since these men were older than he, Elihu bided his time before addressing Job.
MSG
4Elihu had waited with Job while they spoke because they were all older than he.
NABRE
5When, however, Elihu saw that there was no reply in the mouths of the three men, his wrath was inflamed.
MSG
5But when he saw that the three other men had exhausted their arguments, he exploded with pent-up anger.
NABRE
6So Elihu, son of Barachel the Buzite, answered and said:I am young and you are very old;therefore I held back and was afraidto declare to you my knowledge.
MSG
6This is what Elihu, son of Barakel the Buzite, said:"I'm a young man,and you are all old and experienced. That's why I kept quietand held back from joining the discussion.
NABRE
7I thought, days should speak, and many years teach wisdom!
MSG
7I kept thinking, 'Experience will tell. The longer you live, the wiser you become.'
NABRE
8But there is a spirit in human beings, the breath of the Almighty, that gives them understanding.
MSG
8But I see I was wrong—it's God's Spirit in a person, the breath of the Almighty One, that makes wise humaninsight possible.
NABRE
9It is not those of many days who are wise, nor the aged who understand the right.
MSG
9The experts have no corner on wisdom;getting old doesn't guarantee good sense.
NABRE
10Therefore I say, listen to me;I also will declare my knowledge!
MSG
10So I've decided to speak up. Listen well!I'm going to tell you exactly what I think.
NABRE
11Behold, I have waited for your words, have given ear to your arguments,as you searched out what to say.
MSG
11"I hung on your words while you spoke, listened carefully to your arguments. While you searched for the right words,
NABRE
12Yes, I followed you attentively:And look, none of you has convicted Job,not one could refute his statements.
MSG
12I was all ears. And now what have you proved? Nothing.Nothing you say has even touched Job.
NABRE
13So do not say, "We have met wisdom; God can vanquish him but no mortal!"
MSG
13And don't excuse yourselves by saying, 'We've done our best. Now it's up to God to talk sense into him.'
NABRE
14For had he addressed his words to me,I would not then have answered him with your words.
MSG
14Job has yet to contend with me.And rest assured, I won't be using your arguments!
NABRE
15They are dismayed, they make no more reply;words fail them.
MSG
15"Do you three have nothing else to say?Of course you don't! You're total frauds!
NABRE
16Must I wait? Now that they speak no more, and have ceased to make reply,
MSG
16Why should I wait any longer, now that you're stopped dead in your tracks?
NABRE
17I too will speak my part;I also will declare my knowledge!
MSG
17I'm ready to speak my piece. That's right! It's my turn—and it's about time!
NABRE
18For I am full of words;the spirit within me compels me.
MSG
18I've got a lot to say,and I'm bursting to say it.
NABRE
19My belly is like unopened wine, like wineskins ready to burst.
MSG
19The pressure has built up, like lava beneath the earth.I'm a volcano ready to blow.
NABRE
20Let me speak and obtain relief;let me open my lips, and reply.
MSG
20I have to speak—I have no choice.I have to say what's on my heart,
NABRE
21I would not be partial to anyone, nor give flattering titles to any.
MSG
21And I'm going to say it straight—the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
NABRE
22For I know nothing of flattery;if I did, my Maker would soon take me away.
MSG
22I was never any good at bootlicking;my Maker would make short work of me if I started in now!
