1— Se alguém roubar um boi ou uma ovelha e matar ou vender o animal, terá que pagar cinco bois pelo boi e quatro ovelhas pela ovelha.

1"If someone steals an ox or a lamb and slaughters or sells it, the thief must pay five cattle in place of the ox and four sheep in place of the lamb.

2Se um ladrão for surpreendido durante a noite roubando e for ferido e morto, ninguém será culpado de homicídio.

2If the thief is caught while breaking in and is hit hard and dies, there is no bloodguilt.

3Mas, se for morto à luz do dia, quem o matou será culpado de homicídio. O ladrão terá que pagar por tudo o que roubou. Se não tiver com que pagar, será vendido como escravo para pagar pelo que roubou.

3But if it happens after daybreak, there is bloodguilt."A thief must make full restitution for what is stolen. The thief who is unable to pay is to be sold for his thieving.

4— Se roubou um boi, um jumento, ou uma ovelha e o animal ainda estiver vivo, pagará o dobro do que roubou.

4If caught red-handed with the stolen goods, and the ox or donkey or lamb is still alive, the thief pays double.

5— Se alguém deixar pastar alguns dos seus animais num campo ou numa vinha que não lhe pertence, terá que pagar tudo o que os animais comerem. Pagará com o melhor que tiver no seu campo ou na sua vinha.

5"If someone grazes livestock in a field or vineyard but lets them loose so they graze in someone else's field, restitution must be made from the best of the owner's field or vineyard.

6— Se alguém acender fogo no seu campo e esse fogo se espalhar para o campo de outra pessoa e queimar o trigo plantado daquela pessoa, ou o trigo que já tinha sido apanhado, ou qualquer outra coisa plantada no campo, a pessoa que acendeu o fogo terá que pagar pelos danos causados pelo fogo.

6"If fire breaks out and spreads to the brush so that the sheaves of grain or the standing grain or even the whole field is burned up, whoever started the fire must pay for the damages.

7— Se alguém entregar dinheiro, ou coisas de valor, a outra pessoa para guardá-las e essas coisas forem roubadas da sua casa. Então, se apanharem o ladrão, ele pagará o dobro do que roubou.

7"If someone gives a neighbor money or things for safekeeping and they are stolen from the neighbor's house, the thief, if caught, must pay back double.

8Mas se o ladrão não for apanhado, levarão o dono da casa diante de Deus para jurar que não foi ele que roubou as coisas.

8If the thief is not caught, the owner must be brought before God to determine whether the owner was the one who took the neighbor's goods.

9— Se houver uma disputa entre duas pessoas sobre a quem pertence um boi, um jumento, uma ovelha, roupa ou qualquer outra coisa que tenha sido perdida, levem as duas diante de Deus para que façam juramentos. Aquele que for julgado culpado terá que pagar ao outro o dobro do que foi roubado.

11a pessoa que guardou o animal terá que jurar diante do SENHOR que não é culpada de ter roubado o animal. Então o dono terá que aceitar o juramento. A outra pessoa não terá que pagar nada.

11an oath before God must be made between them to decide whether one has laid hands on the property of the other. The owner must accept this and no damages are assessed.

12Mas se aquele que guardava o animal foi quem roubou o animal, então ele terá que pagar o animal ao dono.

13Se um animal for despedaçado por uma fera, a pessoa que guardava o animal trará os restos do animal ao dono e não terá que pagar nada.

13If it has been torn by wild beasts, the torn animal must be brought in as evidence; no damages have to be paid.

14— Se alguém pedir emprestado um animal e o animal ficar aleijado ou morrer, sem o dono estar presente, ele terá que o pagar ao dono.

14"If someone borrows an animal from a neighbor and it gets injured or dies while the owner is not present, he must pay for it.

15Mas se o dono do animal estiver presente, não terá que pagar nada. Se o animal tiver sido alugado, o pagamento do aluguel será suficiente.

15But if the owner was with it, he doesn't have to pay. If the animal was hired, the payment covers the loss.

16— Se um homem seduzir uma mulher virgem, que não esteja comprometida, e tiver relações sexuais com ela, ele terá que pagar o preço do seu dote e casar-se com ela.

16"If a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged to be married and sleeps with her, he must pay the marriage price and marry her.

17Mesmo que o pai da jovem não permita o casamento, o homem terá que pagar o dote que deve se pagar por uma virgem.

21— Não maltratem, nem oprimam um imigrante, porque vocês também foram imigrantes no Egito.
