1Sofonias diz: “Olhe a Jerusalém, a cidade rebelde. Essa cidade suja que oprimia as pessoas.

1Woe to her that is rebellious and polluted! to the oppressing city!

2A cidade que não quis me escutar. A que ignorou os meus ensinos, a que não confiou no SENHOR nem se aproximou do seu Deus.

2She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in Jehovah; she drew not near to her God.

3Os líderes dessa cidade são como leões que rugem. Seus juízes são como lobos que atacam ao entardecer e devoram completamente os cadáveres.

3Her princes in the midst of her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they leave nothing till the morrow.

4Seus profetas são pessoas extravagantes que mentem e enganam para obter o que querem. Seus sacerdotes não respeitam as coisas sagradas e violam a lei.

4Her prophets are light and treacherous persons; her priests have profaned the sanctuary, they have done violence to the law.

5Diferente de tudo isso, o SENHOR é justo nessa cidade. Ele não faz nenhum mal e todos os dias demonstra a sua justiça. Sim, ele é sempre justo nas suas decisões. Nunca faz nada que seja cruel ou perverso”.

5Jehovah in the midst of her is righteous; he will not do iniquity; every morning doth he bring his justice to light, he faileth not; but the unjust knoweth no shame.

6O SENHOR diz: “Tenho destruído as nações, suas torres têm sido destruídas. Tenho destruído suas ruas para que ninguém passe mais por elas. Suas cidades foram destruídas para que ninguém mais viva nelas.

6I have cut off nations; their battlements are desolate; I have made their streets waste, so that none passeth by; their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man, so that there is no inhabitant.

7Pensei que, ao falar isso, os moradores de Jerusalém sentiriam temor de mim e aprenderiam a lição. Pensei que desta forma eles nunca esqueceriam esta lição. Mas o que aconteceu foi que eles ficaram com vontade de fazer mais maldades.

7I said, Only fear thou me; receive correction; so her dwelling shall not be cut off, according to all that I have appointed concerning her: but they rose early and corrupted all their doings.

8“Por isso, esperem por mim. Esperem o dia em que me levantarei para castigá-los. Decidi reunir as nações e reinos, para castigar vocês e lhes mostrar como me sinto mal; para lhes mostrar toda a minha ira. Sim, o fogo da minha ira queimará a terra inteira.

8Therefore wait ye for me, saith Jehovah, until the day that I rise up to the prey; for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger; for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.

9Naquele tempo farei com que os lábios de todos os povos fiquem puros e farei com que as pessoas de outras nações clamem pelo nome do SENHOR. Assim, todos poderão me servir como se fossem um só povo.

9For then will I turn to the peoples of a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of Jehovah, to serve him with one consent.

10Até desde lugares além da Etiópia o meu povo, que está espalhado, virá pedindo pela minha ajuda; eles me trarão a oferta que me pertence.

10From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia my suppliants, even the daughter of my dispersed, shall bring mine offering.

11Jerusalém, naquele tempo você já não sentirá mais vergonha por todos os pecados que cometeu contra mim. Tirarei de você os que se acham tão importantes e não existirão mais pessoas arrogantes no meu monte santo.

11In that day shalt thou not be put to shame for all thy doings, wherein thou hast transgressed against me; for then I will take away out of the midst of thee thy proudly exulting ones, and thou shalt no more be haughty in my holy mountain.

12Só ficarão ali os simples e humildes que confiam no nome do SENHOR”.

12But I will leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall take refuge in the name of Jehovah.

13Sofonias diz: “Os sobreviventes do povo de Israel não farão o mal, nem dirão coisas falsas, nem mentirão. Eles serão como ovelhas que pastam e se deitam tranquilas, sem medo de serem atacadas”.

13The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth; for they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid.

14Sofonias diz: “Sião, cante com alegria! Israel, grite de felicidade! Jerusalém, fique alegre e comemore com todo o seu coração!

14Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem.

15O SENHOR perdoou você e afastou os seus inimigos. O Rei de Israel, o SENHOR, está no seu meio. Por isso, você já não terá mais medo do sofrimento.

15Jehovah hath taken away thy judgments, he hath cast out thine enemy: the King of Israel, even Jehovah, is in the midst of thee; thou shalt not fear evil any more.

16Nesse dia, será dito a Jerusalém o seguinte: ‘Sião, não tenha medo, não desista.

16In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear thou not; O Zion, let not thy hands be slack.

17O SENHOR, seu Deus, está em seu meio. Ele é um guerreiro que dá a vitória, demonstrará a alegria que sente por você com gozo. Sentirá um novo amor por você. Por causa de você, Deus festejará com cantos alegres,

17Jehovah thy God is in the midst of thee, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love; he will joy over thee with singing.

18como se comemora em um dia de festa’”. O Senhor diz: “Já não haverá mais insultos contra você; ninguém mais zombará de você.

18I will gather them that sorrow for the solemn assembly, who were of thee; to whom the burden upon her was a reproach.

19Nesse dia, farei com que deixem de fazer dano a você. Resgatarei os feridos e reunirei os que têm sido expulsos da sua terra. Serão famosos e respeitados em todos os lugares nos quais agora sentem vergonha.

19Behold, at that time I will deal with all them that afflict thee; and I will save that which is lame, and gather that which was driven away; and I will make them a praise and a name, whose shame hath been in all the earth.

20Nesse dia vou fazer que retornem. Vou reunir a todos e serão famosos e respeitados entre todos os povos da terra. Isso acontecerá quando fizer voltar os prisioneiros diante dos seus olhos”. Eu, o SENHOR, falei isto.

20At that time will I bring you in, and at that time will I gather you; for I will make you a name and a praise among all the peoples of the earth, when I bring back your captivity before your eyes, saith Jehovah.
