1Listen, sons, to a father’s instruction. Pay attention and know understanding;

1OUVI, filhos, a instrução do pai, e estai atentos para conhecerdes a prudência.

2for I give you sound learning. Don’t forsake my law.

2Pois dou-vos boa doutrina; não deixeis a minha lei.

3For I was a son to my father, tender and an only child in the sight of my mother.

3Porque eu era filho tenro na companhia de meu pai, e único diante de minha mãe.

4He taught me, and said to me: “Let your heart retain my words. Keep my commandments, and live.

4E ele me ensinava e me dizia: Retenha o teu coração as minhas palavras; guarda os meus mandamentos, e vive.

5Get wisdom. Get understanding. Don’t forget, neither swerve from the words of my mouth.

5Adquire sabedoria, adquire inteligência, e não te esqueças nem te apartes das palavras da minha boca.

6Don’t forsake her, and she will preserve you. Love her, and she will keep you.

6Não a abandones e ela te guardará; ama-a, e ela te protegerá.

7Wisdom is supreme. Get wisdom. Yes, though it costs all your possessions, get understanding.

7A sabedoria é a coisa principal; adquire pois a sabedoria, emprega tudo o que possuis na aquisição de entendimento.

8Esteem her, and she will exalt you. She will bring you to honor, when you embrace her.

8Exalta-a, e ela te exaltará; e, abraçando-a tu, ela te honrará.

9She will give to your head a garland of grace. She will deliver a crown of splendor to you.”

9Dará à tua cabeça um diadema de graça e uma coroa de glória te entregará.

10Listen, my son, and receive my sayings. The years of your life will be many.

10Ouve, filho meu, e aceita as minhas palavras, e se multiplicarão os anos da tua vida.

11I have taught you in the way of wisdom. I have led you in straight paths.

11No caminho da sabedoria te ensinei, e por veredas de retidão te fiz andar.

12When you go, your steps will not be hampered. When you run, you will not stumble.

12Por elas andando, não se embaraçarão os teus passos; e se correres não tropeçarás.

13Take firm hold of instruction. Don’t let her go. Keep her, for she is your life.

13Apega-te à instrução e não a largues; guarda-a, porque ela é a tua vida.

14Don’t enter into the path of the wicked. Don’t walk in the way of evil men.

14Não entres pela vereda dos ímpios, nem andes no caminho dos maus.

15Avoid it, and don’t pass by it. Turn from it, and pass on.

15Evita-o; não passes por ele; desvia-te dele e passa de largo.

16For they don’t sleep, unless they do evil. Their sleep is taken away, unless they make someone fall.

16Pois não dormem, se não fizerem mal, e foge deles o sono se não fizerem alguém tropeçar.

17For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

17Porque comem o pão da impiedade, e bebem o vinho da violência.

18But the path of the righteous is like the dawning light, that shines more and more until the perfect day.

19The way of the wicked is like darkness. They don’t know what they stumble over.

19O caminho dos ímpios é como a escuridão; nem sabem em que tropeçam.

20My son, attend to my words. Turn your ear to my sayings.

20Filho meu, atenta para as minhas palavras; às minhas razões inclina o teu ouvido.

21Let them not depart from your eyes. Keep them in the center of your heart.

21Não as deixes apartar-se dos teus olhos; guarda-as no íntimo do teu coração.

22For they are life to those who find them, and health to their whole body.

22Porque são vida para os que as acham, e saúde para todo o seu corpo.

23Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life.

23Sobre tudo o que se deve guardar, guarda o teu coração, porque dele procedem as fontes da vida.

24Put away from yourself a perverse mouth. Put corrupt lips far from you.

24Desvia de ti a falsidade da boca, e afasta de ti a perversidade dos lábios.

25Let your eyes look straight ahead. Fix your gaze directly before you.

25Os teus olhos olhem para a frente, e as tuas pálpebras olhem direto diante de ti.

26Make the path of your feet level. Let all of your ways be established.

26Pondera a vereda de teus pés, e todos os teus caminhos sejam bem ordenados!

27Don’t turn to the right hand nor to the left. Remove your foot from evil.

27Não declines nem para a direita nem para a esquerda; retira o teu pé do mal.
