But he refused to turn aside. Therefore Abner struck him in the stomach with the butt of his spear, so that the spear came out at his back. And he fell there and died where he was. And all who came to the place where Asahel had fallen and died, stood still.

23-25 Como ele não desistia, Abner parou, virou para trás e enfiou a lança na barriga de Asael com tanta força que ela saiu pelas costas. Asael caiu morto no chão. Todos os que chegavam ao local em que Asael estava caído paravam. Mas Joabe e Abisai continuaram perseguindo Abner. Doch Asaël hörte nicht auf ihn. Da stieß Abner ihm das hintere Ende seines Speeres mit solcher Wucht in den Bauch, dass es am Rücken wieder herauskam. Asaël brach zusammen und starb. Jeder, der vorbeikam und ihn dort liegen sah, blieb entsetzt stehen.

Qui audire contempsit, et noluit declinare : percussit ergo eum Abner aversa hasta in inguine, et transfodit, et mortuus est in eodem loco : omnesque qui transibant per locum illum, in quo ceciderat Asaël et mortuus erat, subsistebant.
